Just watched a bike get stripped at the Edgewood Kroger in under 5 minutes, so here's my new lock rule
I was loading groceries into my car at the Edgewood Kroger on Caroline St around 7pm when two guys rolled up on a moped and went to work on a bike locked to the rack by the front doors. One of them had a cordless angle grinder that fit in a hoodie pocket and he cut straight through a cheap cable lock like it was string. It took maybe 90 seconds from the time they stopped to the time they rode off, one of them on the moped and one on the stolen bike. I yelled something and they just looked at me like I was the weird one. I've lived in this city for 9 years and always used the same $15 cable lock I bought when I moved here. Now I'm using a U-lock through the frame and both wheels every single time, and honestly I'm still not sure that's enough for anywhere in this neighborhood. If you're locking up anywhere on the east side, please don't do what I did for almost a decade. What lock setup are you actually trusting these days, and where on the east side do you feel okay leaving a bike for an hour?
