Looked up the property tax on a house down the street and almost dropped my phone

I was curious about that new renovation on Peachtree Road, the one with the blue door. So I checked the Fulton County tax records online real quick. Turns out the guy paid over $12,000 in property taxes last year on a house he bought for $90k back in 1995. Made me wonder if I should even bother looking for a place in this neighborhood anymore. Has anyone else done that deep dive into your area's tax history and gotten sticker shock?

Same here, I just started ignoring the tax records altogether after finding my own!

Wait, so that guy's paying $12k in taxes on a place worth what now though? I mean, $90k in 1995 was probably like $180k in today's money with inflation, but that still doesn't add up to $12k unless the house is sitting on a gold mine. Are you sure the assessed value hasn't jumped way higher than the purchase price, or is Fulton County just taxing based on what they think it's worth now? Because that's the real kicker when you look at those records.

What’s the actual assessed value on the county site?
