My mailbox at Piedmont Ave kept getting stolen mail until I switched to a different box
For years I used the standard USPS blue box near my apartment on Piedmont Ave and had mail disappear at least four times in 2023. I finally got fed up after a package with $60 worth of art supplies went missing right before Christmas. A neighbor told me about the locked cluster boxes at the post office on 10th Street, so I applied for a PO box there. The switch cost me $56 for six months and it took about 2 weeks to get all my mail forwarded. Now I drive an extra 3 minutes to pick up my letters but I haven't lost a single piece since January. Has anyone else dealt with mail theft around the Midtown area and found a better solution?

...and then last week I found someone's mail from three doors down stuffed into my box. Like a whole credit card statement and a birthday card with cash still in it. I walked it over to them and they didn't even seem surprised, just said "yeah that happens sometimes." At this point I'm half expecting to find a ransom note for my Netflix password in there.

Read an article saying USPS is actually piloting some new high security boxes with keypad access in like three cities, Atlanta being one of them. Wonder if they're testing them around Midtown or if it's just downtown. I had a check stolen from my apartment complex's outgoing mail slot last summer, someone fished it out and changed the payee name. That locked box at the post office sounds better than what I got now. Might just bite the bullet and get a PO box too since my landlord refuses to fix our lobby mailboxes.

Feel you on that. My old apartment had those cheap mailbox panels too, someone pried the whole thing open one night and grabbed a bunch of packages. I ended up getting a PO box at the Midtown post office and honestly it's been worth the forty bucks a year just for the peace of mind. Those new keypad boxes sound interesting, but knowing USPS they'll probably roll them out in like 2027 if we're lucky.
