Realized I was overwatering my ferns after a guy at the Decatur farmers market yelled at me

I had these two ferns on my porch that kept turning yellow no matter what I did. This older guy selling plants at the Decatur farmers market last Saturday saw me buying a watering can and just said "You're drowning those things, aren't you?" He told me to only water when the top two inches of soil are dry. Now they're green and full again after three weeks. Has anyone else had a random stranger fix a plant problem you didn't even know you had?

Wait, do succulents really bounce back that easily from two months without water? Mine always get these permanent creases and never look the same again. I think that Lowe's guy might actually be onto something.

One time a guy at Lowe's told me to stop watering my succulents so much. Changed everything.

I mean hold on, is watering a succulent really that deep? Like yeah sure they don't need much water but it's not exactly rocket science. I've forgotten about mine for like two months straight and they just shrivel a bit then bounce back. The guy at Lowe's probably just wanted to sound smart. Honestly if you're not drowning them in a swamp every day you're probably fine. People act like succulents are these fragile little divas but they're tough little weeds basically.
