So every time I drive through the connector near downtown around 5pm, I see people camp in the far left lane going 55 when they could just move over
I don't get why folks refuse to get out of the left lane on I-85 when they're not passing anyone. Spent 6 months commuting from Buckhead to Decatur and it adds 10 minutes to my trip every single day. Had a friend from out of town ask me why Atlanta traffic is so bad and I told him it's half construction, half people who treat the left lane like a parking spot. Anyone else notice this gets worse after the 285 merge?

Yeah but tell me this - do you think the people camping in the left lane even realize they're doing it, or are they just completely checked out? Cause I swear half of them have that blank stare like they forgot they're driving a car.

Are they like NPCs in their own cars or what? Honestly it's like they got their cruise control on and their brain off.

Holding back traffic in the left lane actually helps keep speeds down and prevents accidents. People tailgating and weaving through lanes cause way more crashes than someone doing a steady 55 in the left lane. Plus the far left lane is supposed to be for "passing" which is pretty vague when traffic is bumper to bumper anyway. Cars don't move faster by everyone squeezing into one lane just so a few aggressive drivers can go 80.
