That tip about checking your tire pressure before a long drive actually saved me $200
Last month someone in this group told me to check my tire pressure before my trip to Savannah. I rolled my eyes because I thought I knew better. Turns out my back tires were 10 PSI low and probably would have blown out on I-75 at 70 mph. I got them filled at a QT for free and the car handled way better. Plus my gas mileage bumped up from 28 to 32 MPG over the weekend. Has anyone else dodged a disaster thanks to some random comment on here?

Does that mean I gotta start checking my air filter too?

I really agree with you on that tire pressure thing. In my experience, so many of the little maintenance tips people share online end up being the stuff that actually matters most. Like I learned from a comment to check my air filter every oil change and it saved me from a pretty pricey repair down the line. Your mileage may vary but it seems like the small, boring advice is usually the gold.

Actually the air filter thing is a bit more nuanced than that. You don't really need to check it every single oil change unless you drive on a lot of dirt roads or in heavy dust. I've seen people replace perfectly good air filters way too often because some random comment told them to. Your owner's manual usually says every 30,000 miles or so but you should definitely pop it out and look at it maybe once a year. If it looks dirty or clogged then yeah swap it out otherwise just let it ride. That's where I see people waste money honestly.
