Vent: That cashier at the Kroger on Ponce told me something I still think about

Last Tuesday I was checking out at the Kroger on Ponce de Leon and the cashier, an older guy named Marcus, just looked at my pile of groceries and said 'You know, you're buying a lot of processed stuff for someone who looks stressed.' I laughed it off but he kept going, said he switched to just rice and beans for a month back in 2019 and it changed his whole energy. Has anyone else had a random stranger call them out like that and actually been right?

Yo, 87% of the stuff in a normal grocery store is processed to some degree. I've noticed this pattern where random people will drop these little truth bombs on you exactly when you need to hear them. Marcus sounds like one of those old dudes who just sees life clearly after years of working a register. It's wild how a complete stranger can call you out on something your own brain has been trying to tell you for months. We get so caught up in the routine of buying whatever's easiest that we forget how much that stuff actually weighs on us.

oh man, marcus sounds like a legit wise old soul. i had a similar thing happen at a gas station in atlanta a few years back. i was buying two monster drinks and a bag of chips at like 10am and the lady just goes "you gotta eat a real meal sometime, baby." i was so annoyed at first but then i realized i'd been running on junk for weeks straight. switched to actual food after that and my sleep got better, my headaches went away. it's weird how a total stranger can see what you've been hiding from yourself.

you gotta eat a real meal sometime, baby" - come on man, that's just a mom guilt trip phrased as wisdom. half the people saying stuff like that are just projecting their own hang ups onto you. that gas station lady doesn't know your life, your schedule, or why you're buying that stuff. maybe you had a long night and just needed caffeine and salt. maybe you were on a road trip and that's all that was open. people act like eating junk once is a moral failure. you switched to real food and felt better, good for you, but that doesn't mean every stranger with a comment has some deep insight. sometimes a bag of chips is just a bag of chips.
