A customer's complaint about my scan tool changed how I run diagnostics

Had a guy in Tuscaloosa tell me my Autel was just guessing codes after I quoted him $400 for a MAF sensor. He was right that I wasn't checking live data first. Now I always look at the sensor readings on a cold start before replacing anything, saved me on a 2017 Silverado last week where it was just a dirty connector.

Man I used to be the same way, just plug in the scanner and trust whatever code popped up. But yeah, that's basically guessing half the time. Now I'll spend ten minutes watching those freeze frame values and live data before I even quote a job. Caught a bad ground on a Ford Escape last month that would've had me swapping two sensors for nothing. It's annoying extra time but beats eating the part cost when the customer comes back pissed.
