Chasing a misfire for 3 days, turns out it was the ground strap

I fought a cylinder 3 misfire on a 2015 F-150 for three whole days, swapped coils, plugs, even the injector. Finally noticed the engine ground strap was corroded clean through near the frame, replaced it and it ran perfect after 10 minutes. Has anyone else had a stupid simple ground issue that made you question everything?

Ground straps are the silent killers of so many good afternoons. That tiny piece of braided wire can make a brand new coil pack look bad when it is actually fine. I have seen it on older GM trucks where the cab grounds rot out and the gauges go wild. The worst part is you spend all that money on parts before you notice the simple thing. Always check every ground connection before you throw parts at a misfire. Glad you found it, that kind of fix makes you both relieved and a little embarrassed at the same time.
