Finally got that old Chevy 350 fired up after 6 months of tinkering
I've been messing with a 1978 C10 that sat in a barn near Springfield since 2008. Last month I finally got the timing dialed in and it coughed to life on the third crank. A buddy at the NAPA counter told me to swap the old points for a Pertronix kit and that made all the difference. Has anyone else had luck waking up a long dead small block that way?

Doesn't it seem like the simplest fix is always the one that brings something back from the dead? It's funny how a little upgrade (or just the right part) can make all the difference, whether it's a truck engine or an old radio that finally picks up a station.

Yeah I heard those Pertronix kits really wake up old small blocks. Crazy what a difference it makes.

To be honest with you @the_susan, I've had mixed luck with those Pertronix kits on my own small block. They do help with starting and idle, but I've heard too many stories of them failing on long highway drives. I'd rather spend a weekend dialing in points than get stranded two towns over.
