Had a guy in a '01 Tahoe teach me a lesson about brake fluid last fall

I was bleeding brakes on an old F-150 at my shop in Tulsa when this older fella pulled in asking if I had a flare nut wrench he could borrow. He said he'd been fighting a rusted fitting for two hours with vice grips and had stripped it almost flat. Has anyone else had a random customer drop some hard earned wisdom on a small thing that stuck with you?

Oh @oscarc53, I’ve learned that lesson the hard way too, usually after calling my dad for help.

That flare nut wrench story hits home. I've been there with rusted fittings and vice grips. Best advice I ever got was to use a torch to heat the fitting just enough to crack the rust, then hit it with penetrating oil while it's still warm. The heat expands the metal and the oil gets drawn right in. Took me from fighting fittings for hours to getting them off in ten minutes. Also, never use vice grips on a flare nut if you can help it, they just destroy what's left of the hex.
