Had a lightbulb moment about brake line flaring on a 2008 Silverado last week

I was fighting a leak for an hour before I realized my old flaring tool had worn out and was making a slightly off-center flare. Borrowed a buddy's new Eastwood unit and it sealed first try. Anyone else have a tool that just quietly stopped doing its job right?

Read an article about how flaring tools can wear down from normal use and just stop making a good seal.

Yeah, that "stop making a good seal" part is sneaky. I check my flaring cone for burrs or a polished look every few months now. It's a small habit that saves a lot of headache later.

My buddy had the same thing happen with his old tube cutter. The wheel got a tiny flat spot and he didn't notice, so every cut was a little crooked. He went through three fittings before he spotted it. How does a tool just give up without telling you? It's like they get tired of working and decide to quit on the job.
