My old boss in Detroit told me to stop guessing and use a multimeter, and now my diag time is cut in half
Back in 2015 I was working at a shop in Detroit and I was the king of swapping parts hoping one would fix the car. My boss pulled me aside after I threw a $200 throttle body at a rough idle and simply said "you're guessing, grab the meter and check the TPS voltage first." I swallowed my pride and started testing before touching anything, and turned out the real issue was a chafed wire at the connector. Now I keep a Fluke 88 in my top drawer and I don't even open a parts box until I've seen the numbers. Has anyone else had a boss call out their bad habit like that and actually stick with the new way?
