Pro tip: don't buy a $200 'mechanics stethoscope' set off Amazon like I did

I dropped $200 on one of those fancy 4-piece stethoscope kits thinking it'd help me find a rod knock in my '94 F-150, but the tubes collapsed after three uses and the diaphragm fell off. Anybody know a decent brand that won't fall apart after a month?

Man that sucks, I've heard the same horror stories about those Amazon kits. A buddy of mine on a truck forum said the only brand that held up for him was Lisle, he picked up their basic one for like 30 bucks and it's still going strong after a year of heavy use. Honestly spending 200 on a stethoscope for a 94 F-150 is overkill anyway, you really just need something simple that doesn't crumble in your hands. The cheap ones all seem to use that flimsy plastic tubing that just gives up. Just grab a decent mechanic's stethoscope from a parts store and you'll be fine, no need to go wild with the price.

Haha @milessmith you're not wrong, 200 bucks for a stethoscope on a 30 year old truck is insanity. That Lisle one sounds like a solid bet, I've seen guys swear by them for years without them falling apart. Sometimes the simple stuff really is all you need, no need to overthink it.
