Spent 3 hours chasing a bad ground that wasn't even broken

Last month I had a Chevy Silverado in the shop that kept killing the battery overnight. I checked the alternator, tested the battery, even swapped the parasitic draw fuse box. After 3 hours of pulling my hair out I finally figured out it was a corroded ground strap between the engine block and the frame. The strap looked fine from the top but underneath it was green and crusty. A new $8 ground strap fixed everything in 10 minutes. I should have started with the simple stuff first but I got too fancy too fast. Has anyone else spent way too long on a job that turned out to be something basic?

$8 part you could've found in 20 minutes, not three hours.

Time spent is time spent, sometimes you just gotta get it done.
