Why does nobody talk about how bad people are at checking their tire pressure

I work at a shop in Dayton and I'd say at least 3 times a week someone comes in saying their car feels funny. First thing I do is check the tires and they're all running at like 18 psi when they should be 32. Last Tuesday a lady told me she just fills them up when the light comes on but that light only goes off when the pressure drops real low. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just my luck with customers?

In my experience, most people don't realize their tire pressure gauge is probably way off too, those cheap pencil ones from the gas station are never accurate after a few months. Your mileage may vary, but I always tell folks to grab a digital gauge from an auto parts store for like 10 bucks and check their tires when they're cold once a week. Take this with a grain of salt, but underinflated tires are a huge reason why cars handle weird in the rain or wear out way before they should.

Wait, you're sure those little pencil gauges get bad that quick? I've had the same one floating around my glove box for like two years and it still seems to match what the air pump at the station says... Maybe I'm just lucky with mine, but I've never noticed it drifting that fast.
