Had to pick between a 3 hour drive for the right part or a 2 day wait for shipping
Got a Garmin G1000 unit down on a Cessna 172, needed a specific data loader module. The local shop was out, and the only place that had one in stock was a shop in Bend, Oregon, about 180 miles away. My boss gave me the choice: drive there and back today, or order it and ground the plane for two days. I took the drive, thinking I could listen to some podcasts and get it done. Halfway there, my truck's check engine light came on, and I had to pull over in the middle of nowhere. Spent an hour on the phone with a buddy who talked me through checking a sensor connection with a multimeter I luckily had. Made it to Bend, got the part, and the drive back was smooth. But that plane better fly like a dream tomorrow. Anyone ever had a simple parts run turn into a whole adventure?

Always pack a basic tool kit and a code reader in the service truck. It has saved me from a long walk more than once. The extra ten pounds is worth it.

Can't argue with that logic at all.

Exactly. I'd even throw in a cheap multimeter and some spare fuses.
