I finally stopped chasing intermittent faults by reflowing every solder joint on the HF radio board
Spent 3 days swapping connectors on a King KY 196 in Tucson chasing a crackle that only showed up in flight, then found one cold joint on the backplane. Anyone else got a better first move than hitting everything with a soldering iron?
My buddy ran a shop up in Prescott and had the same thing on a KX 155, turned out to be a hairline crack in a trace right where the board mounts to the tray. He poked around for a week with a meter before he spotted it under a magnifier. A cheap USB microscope saved him a ton of grief after that, way better than shotgunning solder everywhere.
