Just realized how much faster we get through harness checks now

Two years ago, a full 737 flight deck harness inspection took us a solid 8 hours with the old test boxes. After we switched to the portable digital test sets, that same job is down to about 3 hours. Has anyone else seen a big time drop with newer test gear on specific airframes?

Remember those old test boxes actually found problems the new gear can miss. They forced you to trace every inch, feel for chafing the digital set won't flag. @nathan_shah, it wasn't just staring, you learned the harness. Found a cracked pin sleeve once the portable tester called "good." Speed is great, but you lose that hands-on check. Sometimes slower was smarter.

So the old test boxes were basically just fancy paperweights then... what did you even do for those other five hours, just stare at the wires and hope they felt okay?

Stare at the wires" is exactly how you find the stuff the box misses. You run your hands down the length, feel for a weak spot or a sharp edge. That five hours taught you where the harness would fail before it actually did.
