My multi-function display went blank mid-flight last Tuesday

I was flying a Cessna 172 out of KPDX and the Garmin G1000 MFD just went dark around 5,000 feet. No warning, no dim settings changed, just a black screen with the PFD still working fine. I did the usual cycle the avionics master switch and pulled the circuit breaker for 10 seconds, still nothing. Landed back at Portland Executive 20 minutes later and found corrosion on the backplane connector pins. Has anyone else dealt with that specific failure mode on the G1000 in a humid climate like the PNW?

The "backplane connector corrosion" part caught my eye. I had a similar thing happen but it was totally different gear. I was flying out of KBFI in a 172 with an old King KLN 89B and the screen just went fuzzy green then died. Turns out a coffee I spilled three flights earlier had dripped down the panel and got into the connector pins behind the nav unit. Had to scrub everything with contact cleaner and a toothbrush and it worked again but smelled like stale latte for weeks.

Was it really that bad or did you just not clean it right away?
