That heat gun technique I doubted for years finally saved my bacon
A senior tech at DFW told me to use a heat gun on stubborn connector backshells instead of fighting them cold. Tried it last week on a 20 year old 737 pitot static panel and the thing came loose in under 2 minutes flat. Anyone else have a trick they ignored forever that turned out golden?

Has anyone else tried heating the whole panel area around it first before hitting the connector itself? I read somewhere that warming the surrounding metal helps the threads release more evenly. Might save you even more time on those 20 year old panels.

A 20 year old 737 pitot static panel? I'm genuinely shocked you got it loose at all without snapping something off. I've had aircraft parts from that era where the threads were essentially fused together by corrosion and age. Heat gun sounds like the smart play, but I'm still a bit surprised the phenolic or plastic components inside didn't crack from the thermal shock. That's impressive workmanship on Boeing's part, or maybe you just got lucky. Either way, I'm glad it worked out for you.
