That retired Delta guy who saved my butt on an MD-80 harness

Back in 2019 at the Kansas City hangar, this old timer named Vern walked over while I was chasing a chafed wire bundle near the aft equipment bay and said, "Quit pulling the loom, find the clamp first." He showed me how a loose P-clamp was letting the harness rub on a bracket, took him 10 minutes to spot what I'd been fighting for 2 hours. Do you guys have a go-to trick for tracing intermittent shorts on legacy airframes, or is it just patience and a good flashlight?
