TIL my old wire strippers were the problem, not my eyesight
Took me three hours last Friday to chase a pin that tested fine on the harness but dead at the connector. Turned out my 12-year-old strippers were nicking the inner strands just enough to break under vibration, and I kept blaming the cannon plug. Anyone else upgraded tools and suddenly their 'intermittent' gremlins just vanished?
12 years on the same pair of strippers is wild to me. I replace mine every couple years because the blades get sloppy and start doing exactly what you described. The sad part is you can't see the damage without a magnifier, the copper looks fine until you flex it and it snaps. I chased a no-start on a turbine once for two days and it was a $6 pair of crimpers that wasn't biting all the way, not the $400 igniter box. Tools fail quiet, and we always blame the expensive part first.
Tools fail quiet" is dead on, I lost half a day once to a ratchet that looked fine but wouldn't torque right, and I kept blaming the part I was bolting on. Funny how it's always the cheap thing hiding in plain sight while we tear apart the expensive stuff.
