TIL the $40 avionics flush kit at the supply shop in Tulsa actually works on pitot lines
I figured it was just a rebranded can of air with a fancy hose, so I kept using the shop's old vacuum rig for 2 years. Last Thursday the vacuum died mid-job on a King Air and I grabbed the $40 kit as a backup, and it pushed the blockage out in about 10 seconds without pulling the line. Has anyone else had luck with those little handheld kits, or did I just get lucky on a soft clog?
Those kits aren't just canned air with a hose, they use a regulated shot of nitrogen so the pressure stays steady instead of dropping off like a rattle can does. A soft clog will pop easy, but if it's a real wax or ice plug you'll just be pushing it further down the line.
