Took me 4 hours to find a 50 cent resistor that was hiding in plain sight
Chasing a ghost voltage issue on a Cessna 172 nav unit last Tuesday. Pulled the whole panel, checked every connection, swapped the antenna cable, even re-flowed a suspicious solder joint. Finally decided to trace the circuit backwards from the indicator instead of forward from the source. There it was, a burnt resistor right behind the circuit breaker, not even discolored enough to notice unless you were looking at exactly the right angle. 4 hours. For a part that costs less than the coffee I drank while staring at the schematic. My mentor used to say check the simple stuff first, but I guess I had to learn it the expensive way. Anyone else ever waste most of a day on something dumb like a broken ground wire that looked fine but had corrosion inside the connector?
