Broke a trekking pole 9 miles into a 32 mile loop in the Wind Rivers, and duct tape got me out
Two weeks back I was on a 32 mile loop out of the Elkhart Park trailhead in Wyoming when my right pole snapped clean in half at a creek crossing. I had leaned on it wrong in some loose scree and the bottom section just folded. I wrapped the two halves with duct tape and a guy wire from my tent stake, which held for about 14 more miles before it started bending. Ended up using it like a cane for the last stretch down to the car. Anyone else ever field repaired a pole like that, or do you just carry one the rest of the way?
