I swore off hiking the Enchantments in one day, then a ranger at the Snow Lakes trailhead changed my mind
Two summers ago I tried to do the whole 18 mile through hike outside Leavenworth in a single push and hit the pass at 3pm totally wrecked, which is how I ended up stumbling down to the Snow Lakes trailhead in the dark. I basically decided right there that the one day thing was a dumb stunt for me. Then last month a ranger out there named Kim told me most rescue calls come from people who start the climb up Aasgard too late, not from people who camp overnight, and that a permit for one night makes the whole route way safer. I got a Core permit for September and now I'm actually excited instead of scared. Anyone here done it as an overnighter and got tips on where to stash a bear can near the upper lakes?
