I used to plan my route around the guidebook's 'must see' spots, but a ranger in Glacier told me to check the park's real-time trail conditions page first.

Now I always check the official site for closures and water reports before I even look at a map, because last August I almost hiked 10 miles to a campsite that was shut down due to a bear incident, so what's your go-to source for current trail info?

That's a solid system. Do you find the official pages are updated quickly enough, or is there a lag? I've seen some that are great and others that seem to get updated maybe once a week if you're lucky.

Yeah, the lag you mentioned is real. I've seen some city pages that update within an hour of a new listing, but others are days behind. I ended up setting up alerts on the MLS itself for my target areas, which sends an email the second something hits the market. The official pages are good for a general scan, but you can't rely on them for speed. What alerts are you using right now?

I swear some of these official pages update slower than my grandma types on her flip phone lol. I was tracking a listing in Austin last month that showed as "available" for three full days after someone already had an accepted offer on it. Ended up driving 45 minutes to see a place that was already under contract before I even got in the car. The MLS alerts are the way to go if you're serious about finding something fast, the official pages are basically just there to make you feel like you're doing research when you're really just wasting time.
