Just found out the Pacific Crest Trail actually shares 50 miles with the John Muir Trail
I was mapping out a section hike for next summer and stumbled on this old ranger blog post. Said the PCT and JMT run together for like 50 miles through Yosemite and Sequoia. I always thought they were completely separate routes. Now I'm wondering if I can combine both for a shorter 2 week trip. Has anyone else done that overlap section before?

I section hiked that exact overlap a few years back... started at Tuolumne Meadows and went south to Crabtree Meadows. The best part was you get the PCT wide trails mixed with the JMT's awesome water crossings. I did it in 12 days with a 40 pound pack, but I'm slow. The Whitney Zone can get crowded if you hit it on a weekend though... we got stuck behind a guided group for like two miles.

Wait, 12 days with a 40 pound pack? That's insane, I can barely carry a 30 pound pack for a week without my knees screaming at me. How are you not a walking injury after that?
