Met a guy on the AT who carried a cast iron skillet the whole way

I ran into him near Daleville last spring, and he said it was for the cornbread his grandma made him promise to eat every Sunday. He was 400 miles in and said the weight kept him honest, and I still think about that whenever I pack ultralight... has anyone else met someone carrying something totally pointless but kinda inspiring?

Makes you wonder what silly weight we all carry on purpose, right?
