My friend in Bend swore the 28-mile Three Sisters loop was too much for a weekend, but we did it in 48 hours with time to spare.

We started at 6 AM Saturday, took the Obsidian Trail shortcut he said to avoid, and were back at the car by 5 PM Sunday, which totally changed how I plan trips now, so what's a route someone told you was impossible that you actually crushed?

I read a blog post once about how the Enchantments thru-hike in Washington was only for elite athletes. My buddy and I, just regular weekend hikers, did it last September. We took it slow, camped at Colchuck Lake, and finished the whole core zone in two days. That trip taught me to ignore the gatekeeping and just check the elevation gain for myself. Sometimes people make trails sound way harder than they actually are.

Ignoring the gatekeeping is how unprepared people get into real trouble out there.

What about the people who gatekeep themselves out of fear?
