Nearly got caught in a flash flood on the Hoh River Trail last fall
Was three miles in when the rain started hammering and some guy coming back said the river was already rising fast, so I turned around and now I always check the weather radar before any rainforest hike, anyone else had a close call like that?

Pinned against a logjam for two hours? That's a damn nightmare. I'm not the most experienced hiker but even I know logjams in fast water are basically death traps. Your buddy is lucky to be alive.

Pinned for two hours on a logjam, that's a solid reminder to always scout your crossing first.

The river came up so fast that day, I was surprised anyone even made it back to warn me. My buddy ignored similar warnings on the Salmon River in Idaho last summer and ended up pinned against a logjam for two hours before a rescue team pulled him out. Now I always check the satellite loops for the last 24 hours before heading into a canyon or a narrow valley, not just the forecast.
