Overheard a guy at the ranger station say he hiked the JMT in 12 days

I was picking up a permit for the Rae Lakes Loop and this dude was talking about doing the whole John Muir Trail in under two weeks. Made me realize I've been overplanning my trips with too many zero days and heavy food drops. How do you guys balance pushing miles vs actually enjoying the scenery on these long trails?

Honestly this is just how people move through life now, always rushing to the next thing without actually seeing what's right in front of them. It's like everyone's on a constant scroll through their own reality.

Nope, don't buy it. Sometimes a view's just a view.
