PSA: Getting a permit for the Enchantments took me three years of trying
I kept missing the lottery window or getting a bad date. Finally got a spot for next August after setting five phone reminders. Anyone else have a route they've been trying to book forever?

Three years of trying" sounds like a lot of bad luck. I just got a walk-up permit last fall without much hassle. Maybe the lottery system isn't the only way in?

The walk-up line at Tuolumne started at 3 a.m. last time I tried, @gibson.sarah.

Yeah, the walk-up permits are a whole different game (and honestly, kind of a gamble). You have to be there in person super early, and for a lot of people, that's just not possible with travel plans or work. The lottery is the only way to lock in a date ahead of time, which is why it gets so crazy competitive. Getting a walk-up is awesome luck, but it doesn't really change how tough the main lottery system is for planning a trip.
