Spent 45 minutes trying to find the trailhead for the Lost Creek loop because my GPS put me at a washed-out forest road.
Has anyone else had better luck with a paper map for that specific area near Bailey, or is there a more reliable digital source?

Trust the paper map, not the ghost in your phone.

Paper maps are the only way to go out there. My GPS did the exact same thing last fall, sent me down a logging road that was totally closed. Wasted over an hour of daylight. I always grab the Nat Geo Trails Illustrated map for that whole Lost Creek Wilderness now. It's never let me down, and the forest service roads are actually marked right.

But is getting lost for an hour really that big of a deal? I just use my phone and it works fine most of the time. If a road is closed you just turn around, it's not the end of the world. Carrying a paper map seems like extra stuff I don't need. My phone is already in my pocket.
