Spent $60 on a water filter pump and it broke on day 3 of a 10 day trip

I was doing the Lost Coast Trail up in NorCal and that cheap Sawyer knockoff clogged up something awful. Had to boil creek water over a campfire for the rest of the hike, which added like an hour to each meal. Anyone found a filter that actually holds up on multi-day trips?

$60 for three days of use. Sounds about right for backpacking gear math. Guess the real filter was just a fancy way to collect river samples. Nature's version of a warranty - if it breaks, you boil.

And the weird thing is my buddy swears by that same filter, did the whole PCT with it and never had a problem. But of course my first trip out with one, I forgot to backflush it and ended up drinking muddy water anyway.
