That "easy" Glacier NP loop I did turned into a 14-hour nightmare

I thought the Highline Trail to Swiftcurrent would be a chill 8-mile day but the snowfields were still waist-deep in July and I lost the trail twice. Anyone else run into unexpected conditions on a route that was supposedly "well maintained"?

I used to think GPS was overkill for well-known trails like @jana_scott mentioned, but now I'll never go without one...

Yeah I read GPS units are way better for avoiding those surprise detours.

Were you using a GPS or just following the cairns? I've read that place is notorious for people losing the trail when the snow covers everything. Just wondering if the route finding was the main time suck or if it was the postholing that really killed your pace.
