Used to think the JMT was overhyped until I hit Thousand Island Lake last September

Seeing those peaks reflect in that alpine lake at dawn made me finally get why people rave about it, has anyone else changed their mind about a popular route after actually hiking it?

Got that same feeling at Garnet Lake right as the fog lifted off Banner Peak.

I mean, I had the same thing happen at Garnet Lake a couple years back. It was like 6am and totally quiet except for the wind, and I just sat there for maybe 20 minutes watching the light change on Banner Peak. Idk, I used to think the JMT was just a crowded checklist trail but that morning made me a believer for sure. Maybe it's just me but those alpine lakes really sell the whole experience.

Sat there for 45 minutes once at Thousand Island Lake watching storms roll in over the Ritter range. Didn't see another soul the whole time. The whole trail changed for me after that.
