Vent: My GPS died on the Lost Coast Trail and I spent 4 hours trying to find the right creek crossing

Honestly, the map showed a clear spot to cross Bear Creek, but the spring runoff made it a total mess. I kept walking up and down the bank looking for a safe spot, which wasted most of a day. Has anyone else had a crossing there take way longer than it should?

Bear Creek is one of the most straightforward crossings on that whole section. I did it last May with high water and found the route in maybe twenty minutes. The main crossing spot is obvious if you just look for the cairns on the far bank. Spending hours there sounds like a basic map reading issue, not a trail problem.

Feel like I've been that guy staring at a map upside down before. Sometimes the obvious spot is only obvious after you find it. We can't all be route-finding geniuses.

Basic map reading issue" is just the hiking version of people not reading the manual for anything.
