Wasted $150 on a fancy ultralight tent that leaked like a sieve on the Pacific Crest Trail last summer
Bought some hyped up DCF tent online because everyone raved about it being super light and bombproof. First real rain near Crater Lake and I woke up in a puddle... seams weren't taped right and the floor had pinholes. Had to cut my hike short and buy a cheap tent at a Walmart in Medford. Anyone else get burned by gear that looked amazing online but failed on the trail?

Dude that sucks, honestly. Ngl I feel your pain, I've had that same "trust the hype" moment and ended up soaked and pissed off. Hope the Walmart tent got you through the rest of the trip at least.

Used to buy into the hype but now I get it. Real world experience hits different.

Funny how that works. Reminds me of the time I spent good money on a fancy backpack that was supposed to breathe amazing. First real hike with it and the thing rubbed a raw spot on my hip so bad I had to hitchhike back to town.
