I swapped my gravel for decomposed granite and I'm never going back
I spent 2 summers fighting weeds in my side yard in Austin, always pulling them out of that loose gravel. Last month I finally tore it all up and put down decomposed granite with a plate compactor, and the difference is wild. The weeds barely stand a chance and it actually packs down solid enough to walk on barefoot. Has anyone else made this switch, or am I crazy for liking the dusty look?

My buddy did the same in San Antonio and now calls his yard a giant ashtray, but he loves it.

Quit caring about the dusty look once I realized my dogs quit tracking half the yard inside. The packed surface also means my wheelbarrow doesn't sink and tip over every time I move mulch around. Honestly, the only downside is my kids think it's a sandbox, but that's a lot easier to fix than weeds.
