My patio umbrella snapped in half during a storm yesterday
I mean, I knew it was old, but I didn't think a gust of wind would just fold it like paper. Now I'm stuck in the sun trying to figure out if I should get a cantilever one or just give up on shade. Anyone have a brand that didn't break on them after one season?

...and that's exactly what convinced me to finally replace my cheap one too. I actually read somewhere that most patio umbrellas are only rated for like 15-20 mph winds, so a storm gust is pretty much always going to wreck them unless you spend a bit more. @gavin692 hit the nail on the head with the Abba Patio cantilever suggestion - I've seen a few people on here mention theirs has held up well. I ended up going with a different brand from Home Depot, but the whole cantilever design really does make a difference because the base is heavier and the pole is sturdier. Just make sure to check the wind rating before you buy, and maybe bring it in when bad weather is coming if you can. It's a pain, but cheaper than buying a new one every year.

Yeah I was the same way, always figured a patio umbrella was a patio umbrella. Then my $40 Target special snapped in half during a light breeze and I got a cantilever one from Abba Patio like three years ago. That thing has survived two pretty rough storms so far, your mileage may vary but it made me a believer.
