My patio umbrellas kept getting wrecked after one season, so I switched to a cantilever style last spring

The difference was night and day after just one summer of storms and wind here in Phoenix, the $180 offset one held up perfectly while my old $50 center pole ones would snap after a single monsoon.

Damn, that's a bummer about your old ones but glad the switch worked out lol. Phoenix monsoons are no joke, I've seen those things turn into kites out here.

Wait, you think the wind is what does the damage but what about the DUST? I mean, those monsoon haboobs roll in and it's like a TON of sandblasting on everything. I've seen folks have to replace their windshield wipers every season just from the grit getting embedded in the rubber. The sun does a number on them too with the UV, baking them until they crack. Really the combo of heat, sand, and sudden rain is a triple threat for car parts.
