Old string lights vs the LED strip I put up this year
I tore down the old incandescent string lights that came with the house about 12 years ago. They were fine but dull, and every fall I'd spend a weekend replacing dead bulbs. This spring I put up a 100 foot LED strip along the pergola in my backyard in Columbus. The difference is night and day honestly. The light is warmer and more even, no hot spots or dark gaps. Plus I haven't touched a single bulb since March. I did have to buy a new transformer for about $40 because the cheap one buzzed, but that's it. My neighbor asked what I did because his patio still looks like a cave. Has anyone else made the switch and regretted losing that old glow? Or is LED just the way to go now?

Did your neighbor end up switching after seeing yours? My buddy in Dayton did the same thing last year and told me the only thing he misses is that flicker when the old bulbs blinked out, but he got over it after one summer of not climbing a ladder. Now his whole patio looks like a warm little pub corner, and he jokes the only regret is that his electric bill went down too much to brag about.

Figure out what the old bulbs were really costing before you brag about savings, because most people never factor in the heat they put off in summer. That extra AC load is the hidden part of the bill nobody mentions. Once you count that, the switch pays for itself even faster, so why is anyone still hesitating?
