Overheard at the nursery: gas mowers are better for thick grass than electric ones
I was at the garden center last Saturday picking up some mulch and heard two guys arguing near the mower display. One said gas mowers have more torque for damp Bermuda grass, but the other guy swore his new electric one cuts fine and doesn't smell. I've got a half acre of mixed fescue and I mow every 5 days, so which side is actually right for someone with my yard size? Has anyone switched from gas to electric and regretted it for thick patches?

That Bermuda grass thing is a bit off. Bermuda actually handles heat and drought way better than fescue, so damp conditions aren't really its thing. Fescue is the grass that struggles with thick wet patches. For your half acre mowing every 5 days, you're honestly fine with either gas or electric. I'd ditch the gas just because of the maintenance hassle with spark plugs and oil changes.

Haven't tried electric on a half acre myself, how does it handle the thicker parts of fescue when it's a little damp? I always worry about bogging down.
