PSA: Cheap string lights vs. the slightly more expensive ones - night and day difference after one storm

I bought those $15 string lights from the big box store and they lasted maybe 3 months before flickering. Replaced them with a $45 set from a landscape supply place near Portland and they survived a straight up storm last Tuesday without a single bulb dying. Anyone else get burned by the bargain bin stuff?

Honestly, the "idk man sometimes the cheap stuff actually lasts longer for me" take is wild to me. My buddy bought those same cheap string lights for his patio and after one rainstorm half of them were dangling like dead spiders. He swapped to the mid-tier ones and they're still going strong two years later.
