Rant: My cheap gazebo almost took out my neighbor's fence

Had a pop-up gazebo from Amazon set up for a BBQ last Saturday, then a gust of wind caught it and sent it flying into the side yard. Thank god nobody was standing there, but I'm tossing that thing and building something anchored with concrete instead. What's a solid DIY gazebo kit that won't fold like paper in a breeze?

Cheap gazebo from Amazon" - there's your problem right there. You bought a tent, not a shelter. I've got a $200 one that's still standing after three years, just gotta know how to stake it down right. Maybe the concrete is overkill for something that's basically a big umbrella.

Oh @nancythomas, I feel your PAIN, those cheap shelters are nothing but frustration waiting to happen.

My neighbor's cat still gives me dirty looks after my $50 Amazon special flew into their yard and scared the life out of him. I went with a standard 10x12 hardtop gazebo from a local hardware store, bolted it into concrete footings, and it survived a storm that took down a tree branch last month. Nancy is right that staking works for some people, but I live in a windy area and didn't want to play that game again. Concrete is probably overkill but honestly I sleep better knowing my next BBQ won't turn into a scene from Twister.
