Spent $200 on a gazebo for the patio and it turned into a kite in one storm
Put up a cheap 10x10 gazebo on my patio last spring and it lasted almost 3 weeks before a gust sent the whole thing over the fence into my neighbor's yard. Now I just use a $40 umbrella that I take down when the sky looks mean, has anyone found a patio cover that actually survives a real storm without costing a grand?

Did you guys anchor it down at all or just set it on the patio? Not trying to blame you, because I did the same thing and learned the hard way. Here is the pattern I keep seeing with all this cheap outdoor stuff. Tents, gazebos, those pop up canopies, they all get sold like they are permanent structures, but they are really just meant for a sunny afternoon and then you fold them up. The poles are paper thin, the stakes are jokes, and the fabric turns to dust after one summer of sun. Stores know people want the look of a real covered patio without paying for a real one, so they sell a $200 wind sail and call it a gazebo. My advice is either go with your umbrella plan, which is smart, or save up for something with thick metal legs you bolt into concrete.
