Switched to rubber mulch after fighting with wood chips washing away for 3 years near my patio in Raleigh
I tried everything from landscape fabric to edging stones but it took one $40 bag of rubber mulch to finally solve the mud problem after every rain storm and now I don't have to re-spread anything has anyone else made the switch and noticed it stays put better?

Made the same switch last year after giving up on the wood chips constantly ending up in my flower beds. Rubber mulch has been a game changer for sure, especially with the heavy downpours we get around here. One thing to watch out for though is that it can get pretty hot in direct sun on a 90 degree day, so just keep that in mind if you plan to walk barefoot near it. Still beats having to buy new bags of wood chips every six months though.

Man, that's funny you say that. My buddy Dave in Durham swore by wood chips for years, then after one hard rain his whole patio looked like a mud wrestling pit. He threw down rubber mulch and thought he was set. First 90 degree day his dog stepped on it and yelped like crazy. The stuff was cooking hot. He had to put a little path of stepping stones in just so the dog could walk across without burning his paws. But he never had to re-spread anything after that, so he called it a win.
