The neighbor who insisted my fire pit was a hazard
Last Saturday I was out back burning some brush in my little fire pit, the one I built from a kit last spring. My neighbor across the fence, a guy named Gary, came over and spent 10 minutes telling me how the sparks could catch his new cedar fence on fire. He showed me a photo on his phone of a house fire he said started from a fire pit two towns over in Oakdale. Has anyone else had a neighbor give them grief about something innocent in their own yard?

Hold on, let me just play devil's advocate here for a second. I mean, houses catch fire from lightning strikes too, but nobody's out here telling the sky to knock it off. Gary's got a point about sparks on a dry cedar fence, sure, but is he also going to complain if you light a grill? My buddy had a neighbor who bitched about his kids' trampoline saying it was a "noise hazard." Some people just need something to fuss about. Unless you're burning old pressure-treated wood or a pile of leaves in a drought, I'd say Gary's probably overreacting.

Whoa, wait. Someone actually complained about a TRAMPOLINE being a noise hazard?
